Credit Card Debt Help

If you are looking for ways to get credit card debt help, you are not alone. Millions of Americans have carried debt for a long time, thinking they were keeping up with their payments and nobody was getting hurt. Now people are finding themselves hurting to keep up with the lifestyle that living on credit has created. But there is help for people who find themselves deep in debt and struggling to keep up. Consider a number of viable options for getting credit card debt under control.

1. For profit debt consolidation companies will charge you a fee to help you pay off your debt. These companies will talk to your creditors to get all your extra fees waived and bring your payments to a point you can afford them every month. You will make one payment to the company, and their fee will be built in to the payments you make to your creditors each month.

2. Nonprofit debt consolidation companies will provide essentially the same services as a for profit company. The fees will usually be smaller than that of a for profit company. The nonprofit company will also probably require you to take some sort of counseling class to be a part of their program.

3. A debt consolidation loan may be possible for you if you can still get one. Your credit score is important when you are applying for a consolidation loan, so if yours has already tanked, this may not be an option for you. If you are able to take advantage of a debt consolidation loan, you will be able to pay off all your higher interest credit cards, along with your car or student loans. Then you will pay only one monthly payment. Be sure you are getting an interest rate that is lower than your other loans or you will end up paying more in the long run!

4. Credit counseling is another option for credit card debt help. This service helps you figure out where you went wrong and make changes to your lifestyle that help you prevent the same mistakes from happening again. While we like our instant gratification society, sometimes credit counseling is the longest-lasting, most responsible choice for managing an out of control credit card situation.

5. Debt settlement is another option. A debt settlement agency can help you talk to your creditors to settle on a repayment amount that is lower than what you actually owe. Creditors will settle if you are already very near bankruptcy. At least that way they get back some of their money, and you get to avoid the bankruptcy situation, which brings us to the last option.

6. Bankruptcy is the least desirable way to deal with credit card problems. There are several types of bankruptcy, which bring varying degrees of relief. None of them are good options. A bankruptcy declaration stays on your credit report for ten years. So if you are planning on declaring bankruptcy, you better not need a car loan, a home loan, or any other loan, for a very long time! It is not a good option, so try anything else before you find yourself declaring bankruptcy!
