Repair Guide Summary
Improving your Credit Score does take some effort and time.
But if you follow the recommendations we provided you should be able to improve
your credit score. The information provided is based on advice from other people who
have had the same challenge you may face in credit repair. We also had several knowledgeable
professionals in the credit industry review this information for accuracy on
credit repair methods.
The credit bureaus are
overwhelmed by the amount of data, number of individuals to track,
and vendors who request and report credit information. And then
there's the profit motivation by the three major Credit Bureaus,
Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax. They invent
new ways to sell credit information.
The credit system has become quite a nightmare for many
people. Some of it is a result of vendors using credit as a sales vehicle (like
car sales people wanting you to just look at the monthly payment rather than
the total amount or the details). Some of it is by the credit card companies
bombarding consumers with offers of what appears to be low interest cash
advances or special deals. But if you are late on one payment, these companies
have the ability to raise your low 9% interest rate to a whopping 28%.
To be fair, the consumer has to buy in on these deals and should
share some of the blame. But there are way too many predatory credit card and
other vendors who prey on people’s lack of experience.
Many consumers have never seen
their credit report. They have no idea of what their rights are or
how to file a credit report dispute letter. This adds to the huge impact of
inaccurate credit reports and as a result, low credit scores.
If you feel you have a serious problem, you should seek
some kind of credit counseling. We do not recommend any one who charges a fee
(they say they are non-profit and they are by a strict definition but that just
may mean that they payout all the excess revenue to solicitors or
“councilors”). Some offer to consolidate your debts and that can be a step in
the right direction but it also can just add to your troubles.
A good place to check for real
credit repair help is your local church
or county government offices. These organizations have your best interest at
heart and can provide some support if you need it. They have no vested interest
(they don’t make any money off of any decision you make) and can provide some
good advice.
It usually takes a dedicated effort to work yourself out
of debt but the good news is that you can do it. But you have to manage your
credit just like any other responsibility. The final decision to take on
additional debt is yours. Exercise caution in any transaction and make sure you
fully understand the terms of any contract.
We hope this information has been of some benefit and will
help you improve your Credit Score. We have four other guides in progress, one
on Identify Theft, Home Mortgages, Credit Card Fraud, and Car Financing. We
hope to have all out later in this year so check back often.
